Jeddah Airport (KAIA) Guide for Umrah Pilgrims

King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) handles most Umrah arrivals through Terminal 1; the separate Hajj Terminal operates only in Hajj season. Makkah is about 80–100 km by road (roughly 1–1.5 hours) or via the Haramain high-speed train from the airport station.

King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) is the main gateway for Umrah. Terminal 1, the large new terminal, handles Saudia, flynas, flyadeal and most foreign carriers including PIA, Airblue and AirSial on regular Umrah flights. The separate Hajj Terminal is used only in Hajj season for Hajj charters.

From the airport to Makkah

  • Haramain high-speed train: the airport has its own station; Makkah is about 40–50 minutes. Buy tickets online in advance in peak weeks.
  • Road: licensed taxis, ride-hailing apps or the operator's bus take roughly 1–1.5 hours to central Makkah depending on traffic and checkpoints.
  • Group transfers: Umrah operators usually meet groups in arrivals with a named sign; keep the operator's Saudi WhatsApp number saved.

On arrival

  • Immigration checks the Umrah e-visa and passport; biometrics may be taken. Keep the Nusuk hotel confirmation on your phone.
  • Ihram: pilgrims landing in Jeddah and going straight to Makkah must already be in ihram, entered before crossing the miqat (Yalamlam) in the air; airlines announce it, usually 30–45 minutes before landing.
  • SIM cards and currency exchange are in the arrivals hall; rates inside the airport are worse than in Makkah.

Departing

Zamzam (sealed 5 L) is bought at the airport or delivered by the operator and checked as a separate piece where the fare allows. Arrive 3–4 hours before departure in Ramadan and Dhul Hijjah.
