There is no nonstop flight between the United States and Pakistan. PIA’s New York and Chicago service (six flights a week at its peak) ended years ago, and PIA has been barred from US operations since July 2020; a return depends on the US aviation regulator restoring Pakistan’s safety rating. An FAA team reviewed Pakistan’s civil aviation authority in September 2025, and in May 2026 Pakistan was still pressing Washington for an early restart. Until that happens, every US–Pakistan trip has at least one stop.
The one-stop options that work
- Qatar Airways via Doha and Emirates via Dubai — the widest reach in Pakistan: Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, plus Peshawar, Sialkot and Multan on some days.
- Etihad via Abu Dhabi — Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi; on the way back to the US you clear US immigration in Abu Dhabi before boarding.
- Turkish Airlines via Istanbul — often among the shortest total times from the East Coast.
- Saudia via Jeddah or Riyadh — slower on paper, but it allows an Umrah stopover of up to 96 hours.
Door to door, a New York–Islamabad or Chicago–Karachi trip is typically around 19–22 hours with one connection; from Houston or the West Coast, plan on 21–24. Two short connections through Europe can be cheaper but risk missed connections with separate tickets — we issue one through-ticket so your bags go all the way.

Where Pakistani-Americans fly from
About 680,000 people in the US identified as Pakistani in 2023 (US Census Bureau estimates via Pew Research Center). The biggest communities are in the New York area, Houston and the Washington DC region, with large populations around Chicago and Dallas too. Every route below starts from one of those gateways.
When fares peak
- Highest: June to August, the weeks around both Eids, and mid-December to early January.
- Quieter: late January to March (outside Ramadan and Eid) and October to November.
- 2027: Ramadan expected from about 8 February, Eid al-Fitr about 9–10 March, Eid al-Adha about 16 May, all subject to moon sighting.
Baggage from the US
To and from the US, the Gulf carriers use the piece concept: Emirates 2 bags of 23 kg on Saver, Flex and Flex Plus (1 bag on its lowest fare); Etihad 2 bags of 23 kg except Basic fares; Gulf Air 2 bags of 23 kg; Qatar Airways 1 or 2 bags of 23 kg depending on the fare. Turkish Airlines and Saudia set allowances by route and fare, so the figure on your ticket is the one that counts. Baggage by airline.
From Canada
PIA is the only airline flying nonstop between Canada and Pakistan, from Toronto Pearson to Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi on the Boeing 777, about 14 hours in the air. Frequencies are low — recent flight-tracking data shows about two flights a week to Lahore and one each to Islamabad and Karachi — so the nonstops fill early at peak times. Air Canada does not fly to Pakistan; its South Asia flights go to Delhi and Mumbai.
One-stop options
- From Toronto: Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates via Dubai, Etihad via Abu Dhabi, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, or Saudia via Jeddah with an optional Umrah stopover.
- From Vancouver, Calgary and Montréal: one stop in the Gulf or Istanbul, or a domestic connection to Toronto for the PIA nonstop on one through-ticket.
Where Pakistani-Canadians fly from
The 2021 Census counted about 303,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin, about 213,000 of them in Ontario, then Alberta (about 40,000), British Columbia (about 19,000) and Quebec (about 17,000). Toronto Pearson is the natural gateway, and the only one with nonstops.
